A provision in the continuing resolution that Congress recently passed to keep the federal government functioning into March includes a short-term extension of the Homeland Security Department's E-Verify program. The extension ends March 6, just over three months after the E-Verify program is scheduled to expire on November 30th.

A manual with easy to follow diagrams for training workers on heat stress prevention has been completed and is ready for distribution, the Department of Industrial Relation’s (DIR) Director John C. Duncan announced earlier this week. The guide will assist outdoor employers who under California law must provide comprehensive training on the subject for their supervisors and outdoor workers.

Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer announced earlier this week that USDA has awarded more than $28 million through the Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI) to solve critical specialty crop agriculture issues, address priorities and solve problems through multifunctional research and extension.  Western Growers’ Hadi Tabbara served as a member of the review team during the grant-writing process.
